About Me

Hi. I’m Samantha Garner.
I’m a freelance editor, but you’ve probably figured that out by now.
I’ve been editing and writing on a variety of topics since 1997. I’ve written about things such as green living, freelance writing, historical figures, non-traditional weddings and unusual inventions. My day jobs have been in the corporate communications and marketing fields, helping lots of different clients communicate to lots of different audiences. I love editing all kinds of things and get a thrill from ferreting out clichés and reworking sentences. Yes, it’s nerdy, but someone’s got to be the nerd!
On the non-paying side of things, I sat on the board of directors of the Alexandra Writers’ Centre Society for two years, as well as on the editorial collective of the organization’s 25th anniversary publication. I’m currently a member of the Writers Guild of Alberta. My short fiction and poetry have been published in The Fiddlehead, Broken Pencil and Kiss Machine.

Suite 101
Suite 101 features thousands of articles written by experienced authors. I contributed articles in the Resources for Writers section, offering aspiring and experienced writers alike tips and advice in an at-a-glance and focused format. Here, I used keywords and SEO to ensure it was easy for the right audience to find each article.

Inventor Spot
For Inventor Spot, I started out writing about historical inventions, whether they flopped or were still in use today. Later, I switched to writing about innovative marketing and advertising from around the world. I researched ideas independently as well as participated in marketing and promotional efforts for my blog and Inventor Spot in general. I was able to insert relevant keywords into each article organically, without detracting from the flow of the text.

Hugg.ca
In 2008, I contributed regular articles to hugg.ca, a Canadian environmental news and tips blog. For this blog, I conducted independent research from a variety of sources. I varied my articles between news items and general interest “how-to”-styles.
